Statehood Now Rally in front of the Corporate Nipple

About ten Statehood-Green members and candidates spoke with the media just out front from the Rayburn Building. The drizzly weather couldn't keep away these Greens seeking Statehood for ALL District residents.

Statehood Now!This fiery Statehood crew spontaneouly marched down South Capitol Street coming from Independence Avenue to take time and pose for a legendary shot next to the Capitol with a special appearance by The DC Colonist.

Statehood NowCentering this rally was a very large flag emblazoned with the famous DC double bars topped by a star triplet. In the tradition of using earth friendly products, the flag was specially made for the DC Statehood Green Party and consists of hemp fabric and soy-ink. It has been in use for several years now and is the largest of its like.

Inside the Rayburn Building, DCSGP peeps met with others interested in Norton Davis Bill. Celebrities included the outgoing Mayor Tony Williams, Councilmembers Fenty, Schwartz, Catania, Grey, and Brown. Congressmen Davis and Conyers and Delegate Holms-Norton were on the congressional dais listening to testimony from representatives from such well known places as The American Enterprise Institute.

The DC Colonist greeted them with disenfranchisement.

DCSGP on the mic!

Just before spontaneouly marching with the flag, DCSGP members and candidates spoke with media just in front of the Rayburn Building. ANC Candidate Dave Bosserman and Council At-Large Candidate Ann Wilcox helped kick off a rally demanding Statehood Now and asked the public to inform themselves of this matter as it is being discussed again on the Hill. The latest lame attempt at legislating equitable voting rights for District residents is before the House in committee and hearings are now being conducted.

Chris Otten, DCSGP Mayoral candidate, posited that the connection between DC's lack of representation and the fact that we rank near the bottom of most achievement standards, economic and educational, isn't just a coincidence.
